I have the privilege of participating in the mass during the Lenten season as a lector. Traditionally, we read a three part gospel during the 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays of Lent. Today was my first time reading in the new church and the gospel for today (Cycle A for preparation of the Catechumenate) was the story of Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well. Next week will be the man born blind and the week after that the story of Lazarus. All of these stories have strong baptismal themes and are used as a preparation for those who will be baptised and receive their sacraments at the Easter Vigil. It is truly an honor to participate in this process and to be a part of the worship of the mass during this prayerful time.
