Fair Food

I mentioned the county fair a couple of days ago, and we’ve been going a lot… but I have to say the food at the fair is a blessing in itself.  Please don’t comment about how terrible it is for me… I already know that… I also don’t want to hear about sanitary practices and the inspections of the trailers that prepare the food.  I’m not stupid… I just don’t care.  There are few pleasures in life that measure up to eating bad for you food at the county fair.

My brother in law John is always a partner in crime when it comes to this activity.  We can often be found strolling up and down “food alley” trying to decide which delicacy we are going to purchase next.  Sometimes we try and talk each other into something, but for the most part, he gets what he wants, I get what I want and we meet in the middle to share and enjoy.

My favorites include the corn dogs (of course, they’re a classic,) the milk shakes made at the 4-H barn and the mini donuts… but my absolute favorite is the shrimp tostada from Celia’s.  It is delicious.  The ingredients are always fresh and I don’t feel quite so guilty since nothing is fried.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it.  We’ve also enjoyed the tacos, burrito and quesadilla from Celia’s.  Every fair I go to I look for her booth, but so far I’ve only found it at the Stanislaus County Fair.
