As part of my MJC class, I had to participate in a live "chat" on the class website... something that I haven't done in a long time. (Since the days of using AOL.) It was not difficult to find a willing partner since it was an assignment for the entire class. I posted a message that I would be online at 10:00 am on Thursday morning and 4 people responded that they would join me. It was almost 10:10 before anyone else showed up. I was beginning to panic that I was in the wrong place until a classmate joined me. Our instructions were to "chat" about any subject for a minimum of 3 minutes. My entire time in the room lasted about 30 minutes with two different people. It was much easier to chat with only one other individual. There were only 3 of us for a little while. The first lady left shortly after the second lady entered the room. I guess I had forgotten about this form of communication. It was very cool to have a live conversation online. With text messaging so popular, I don't think I'm the only one not using this tool, but I'm going to try and remember it in the future.
