We had a meeting today to follow up on the Read to the Dog program that we started in September. All four dog handlers were there as well as most of the volunteer support staff.  Comments were made and ideas were exchanged, but I really got the impression from the library staff that they were not interested in continuing the program.  I am very disappointed.  With the budget cuts and furlough days, they just don't feel as though they have enough time to manage it. They did suggest that some of the smaller branches might be interested but that was even hesitant.  This seems odd to me since there are so many unpaid volunteers who are more than willing to step forward.  I really felt like this was a "goodbye" and "thanks but, no thanks" meeting. Now, having said all of that, I still consider the feedback a blessing.  Although the meeting did not turn out as I was hoping, I still appreciate the feedback (negative or positive) that was exchanged.  I'm still not convinced that we're getting a straight answer, but at least I know the volunteer staff seemed as disappointed as I was.  We'll see what happens.  As of today the program will only run through the 19th of November and then will be discontinued.
