Hospice Training

Over the last couple of weeks, I've been working through the Hospice Training manual doing sort of a self-study, orientation into Hospice care which has helped me to understand the hospice philosophy.  My intention is to start doing hospice patient visits with Charlie after the first of the year.  All of this work is preparation.  The lady I've been working with assured me that the reading was quite interesting and she was right. I've experienced a lot of death in my life, but all of it has been sudden.  I have never had the opportunity to experience the dying process... so I'm learning... a lot.  There are so many different aspect to consider... Physical, emotional, spiritual, psychosocial and then you have to consider not only the patient, but the family and support community as well.  I've always considered myself "good with grief" but I realize that I have a lot to learn about dying...

The more I read, the more I am CONVINCED that this work is exactly why Charlie was given to me and that God is calling us.  I know that I will receive more than I give.  I am anxious to begin and counting the blessings already.
