We hosted dinner for four couples attending the Central Catholic High School Winter Formal on Saturday night. We were really honored that the kids were willing to stay home for dinner and happy to cook and serve them. We had planned on dinner for 8 (8 kids + 2 cooks) but as it turned out... we actually provided dinner for 22. Here's the story. Our original number went up the first time as Leroy realized that the Dallas Cowboy football game started at 5:00. This is the first time in many years that the Cowboys have had a post-season playoff game. Since his sister and her family are big fans, Leroy invited them over to watch the game. Then... when Sierra heard what we were having for dinner, she called and asked if she could come down and bring a few friends from school for dinner and to spend the night. Our door is always open so they headed down. That added five more to the total. As the formal kids were dropped off, we started to visit with the parents who had delivered them. We invited them in and 4 of them stayed for a drink and dinner bringing our total count up to 22.
I've written before how much I love to entertain, but I particularly enjoy feeding people. The amazing thing about tonight is that we didn't head to the store for more food. We simply pulled a few extra things in from the freezer and the pantry and made it with what we had on hand. It truly was a "loaves and fishes" night.
