What I'm doing at 20:11 in 2011... This is my first CCHS Gridiron dinner this year... (and it's the last game of the regular season.) When Thursday night comes around, I usually just prefer to stay home, instead of driving all the way back into Modesto.
For those of you who don't know what Gridiron is... I'll explain. Each Thursday night of the high school football season, parents (and family, and friends, and fans) of Central Catholic Football players come together for dinner. Each week, the dinner is hosted by individual families or businesses. Everything is free of charge, but a donation (in the helmet) is appreciated. All proceeds from the helmet collection, or raffle tickets goes directly to the CCHS football program. Cocktails at 6:00, dinner at 7:00 and chalk-talk at 8:00. Each week the coaches talk about the previous week's game and what to expect for the upcoming game. It's a great chance for parents to get to know one another and to bond as a football family.
When the kids were in school, I didn't miss a Gridiron dinner. We hosted dinners for 6 years in a row. Now, I'm just a coach's wife... and I find that I don't know as many people as I used to. There are always a few familiar faces and there are still some "characters" in the crowd that welcome me back. (Like the guy in the photo.)
So that's what I was doing at 8:11... having dinner with Brett and Natalie, in the wrestling room at CCHS... just like old times.
