Another incredible day in paradise... and while I do not struggle to see grace all around me, I do find it a bit of a hassle to write each night. I've quickly adopted the Hawaiian easy going attitude. No worries. No time constraints and no stress. I've even stopped carrying my cell phone. We started the day off with a whale watching excursion which is a bucket list item for me. There are trips out of Monterey Bay so it's not like I had to come to Hawaii to do it, but this seemed like a great opportunity. The bay in Maui is considered a Humpback Whale nursery... and we witnessed several mother calf teams today. Very cool. We didn't get an up-close breech, but can see those from the shore.
After whale watching we went snorkeling again and I've decided that it is just about my favorite activity. We had several turtle sightings. I saw two and on each occasion I chased them for a while. I came within 5 feet of one, but he started to swim deeper and deeper. As I got closer to him, I realized that I didn't know what I would do if he turned around... and so I backed off and decided he had the right of way.
That's how I felt about the whole experience. I truly felt like a guest in their home. All of the creatures that live under the sea have beautiful accommodations... and I am blessed to be able to witness and visit, but it is their home. I can't bring myself to touch a thing. I don't even like to pick up the coral or shells from the shore. It just seems wrong. I have a new respect and reverence for this world.
And each day, I continue to learn more.
