Tonight was a surreal experience. We traveled to Atwater High School to watch Austin play in the Rotary All Star game... and felt like we transported to a late October league game. Once the sun went down, the wind kicked up and it cooled off so much it got down right chilly. We had to keep reminding ourselves it was the end of June, not October. Since Austin has decided (at this point) not to play football in college, this was probably the last time he will be wearing pads. It's a harsh reality. These boys and their families invest so much emotion in this sport. I know, because I've been there. We have to keep reminding ourselves, do cry because it's over, smile because it happened.
Austin played well... and even though he's the "big guy" in our family, he looked closer to average size on the field tonight. There were some very big boys on the field. The game was very lopsided with the North (Austin's team) dominating on both offense and defense.
Two of the boys on Austin's team tonight will be joining Steel on the field at Pacific this fall. If tonight was a preview, we're in for some good football on Saturday afternoons too.
