I really, really hate the feeling I get when I've just finished a good book. I love to read and actually don't spend as much time reading as I would like. Fortunately, I am a big romance fan so there is no lack of reading material. Most of the time the stories are in a series so ending one book is just an exciting beginning of a new one. The problem is that eventually, the series comes to an end. All week-long I was a little rummy after finishing some good books last week. I find it difficult to disengage and not contemplate the stories and the characters. I thought maybe a little "hair of the dog" would make me feel better but it was a short-term fix. I downloaded a new book last night and stayed up reading until 1:30 am. This morning, I was shocked and highly irritated when the book ended abruptly on a cliffhanger. I didn't realize that I was that close to the end. I read the whole thing in about 13 hours. (Fortunately, the sequel will be released in October.) Now I'm right back at square one, in the middle of a book hangover.
The good news in all of this is that a book hangover means I really enjoyed the book. They have truly been an escape for me and I love getting lost in the stories. While I hate for the story to end, it's certainly an indication that they have been successful at keeping me entertained. The true test of a good book is leaving the reader wishing there was more.
Now to find a new story.
