We received some devastating news today. This afternoon, Steel blew out his right knee in a football game. We're not completely sure the extent of his injuries, but the physicians suspect damage to his ACL and MCL. (No fracture.) He must wait for the swelling and pain to reduce before further testing. Our hearts sank as we received a text from him while in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. This is when I really, really hate being so far away. We feel so helpless, even though we know there isn't a thing we can do. For 12 straight years, that young man has poured his heart and soul into the sport he loves. The season-ending injury is not only a shock, it's a heart-breaker for us all. And yet we are still comforted by the grace that surrounds us. The grace of being with good friends when we heard the news. The grace of confidence in the medical staff at Steel's school. We are graced with the friendship of a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon on speed dial who knows that a comforting and reassuring word to Steel's mama was the best thing she could have heard all day.
We continue to count our blessings.
We are not sure what the immediate future holds for Steel. His focus and ours is on his healing and recovery. Please keep him (and us) in your prayers. As soon as we know more, I'll update everyone with a post.
