Our trip to Oregon lasted less than 24 hours. Whirlwind to say the least. It was really (REALLY) good to see Steel doing so well, but we're pretty tired today. Even so, we were up early, packing and heading home. Even though we were flying this time, it still takes up the majority of the day. Every time we go to Oregon we tell ourselves that Someday, we're going to take a little extra time and do some sightseeing, but it hasn't happened yet. There just doesn't seem to be the time. We did manage to squeeze in one adventure that everyone was telling us about for the last few years. We finally made it to VooDoo Doughnuts. If you want to get a little extra attention in an airport, carry around a pink box from VooDoo Doughnuts. We stopped at the famous doughnut shop on our way to the airport today. The store itself is really cool and we got there just in the nick of time... before the line formed down the street. Even so, we still had to wait about 20 minutes. The location we went to is right, downtown Portland and is surrounded by lots of food trucks and quaint restaurants. (All of which were closed because of the time of day.) We flew home from Portland, back to Sacramento and stowed our delicious treasure as carry on baggage. There were many, many volunteer taste testers but we were stingy and kept the box closed the entire time. (The delectable aroma did sneak out a few times tease us.) The box was certainly a point of conversation and a real icebreaker with strangers.
We eventually did share some of the doughnuts and they were really wonderful. We will definitely be going back for more.
