Hey Kid: Travel Light
Hey Kid -- You need to understand that I don't always follow my own advice. It is appropriate that I write these words on January 1st... when I've just been evaluating the resolutions I'd like to commit to for the coming year. One thing that I know is a good idea is to always travel light...
In every sense of the word.
But it's easier said than done.
I don’t mean just packing a suitcase… but that’s part of it. Life is a journey… and it seems to me that the whole trip would be a lot more fun if we didn’t have so much crap to carry along with us. We tell ourselves that our “baggage” is necessary or that we’re stuck with it… but there are things we can do to lighten up.
Learn to require less to make you happy. Eliminate your dependency on things first, but we also need to recognize there are other ways to travel light. It is always best to eat light, reflect light, speak light, think light and dream light just to name a few. This is also where it gets difficult… but it’s also the most important.
It’s going to take a lot of work and the only way to do it is to get rid of the stuff that is keeping you from light. Some of the things to toss are material, but they also include negative thoughts, fearful emotions and bad habits… just to name a few.
This won’t happen overnight. To be honest, it will take a constant effort for the rest of your life, but I promise it will be worth the effort.
