Hey Kid: Must Love Football
It would be deceitful if I didn't tell you right from the beginning that we have certain expectations for you. We don't intend for these to be burdensome, but we think you're extraordinary so we expect you to think, live and behave in an extraordinary manner. I know that sounds overwhelming, but you're up for the challenge. Your parents survived it (and turned out pretty well) and so will you. One of the first things we expect is that you will love football. I don't care if you're a boy or a girl... if you ever play a down or coach a team... We still expect you to love the game. It just what we do. Sometimes our entire lives are planned around football... and we wouldn't have it any other way. We love the game... all of it. We've all played a part on the team from cheerleader, player, coach and ultimate fan.
(The last one is me.)
You will be attending games very, very early in your life. Get used to the noise, to the weather and everything else that goes along with it. This will make it easier and more enjoyable for all of us. You will hear some cheering, some jeering and occasional profanity. This is not intended to be offensive, it just happens in the heat of the moment. (This is reserved for adults only and will not be tolerated until you're older.) You will be allowed to pick your favorite team (within reason) but be prepared to defend that decision on a regular basis.
I'm confident you'll fit in with Team Rocha. I can't wait to take you to your first game. You're going to love it!
