Hey Kid: Can-Do Attitude

I absolutely love this picture of Steel.  I guess it's one of those "you had to be there" moments, but thispicture takes me back to a great memory in (of all places) a Walmart in Oregon.

Steel had just been released from the hospital following his ACL repair.  We were taking him home from the hospital but we wanted to stop and get him some groceries knowing he wouldn't be able to get around much for a few days.  We asked him to make a list of the things he wanted, but he insisted on going in with us.  So he jumped (literally) onto one of the electronic shopping carts and wheeled around the store like a pro.  Leroy and I could not stop laughing.  It was a sight to see Steel driving around with his leg propped up... and me chasing after him with a grocery cart and his crutches.  He indulged me with this pose when I asked for a picture.  I just wanted to record the memory.

Even writing this now, I'm laughing again.

Steel is a remarkable young man and in more ways than I can count.  But one of his greatest strengths is his "can do" attitude.  He does not set limits for himself.  He is the most self-confident and self-assured person I know and I really admire him.  This personality trait has taken him far in his young life, and has never been more evident than in the last 5 months during his recovery from the knee/artery injury.

I can't wait to see where else it will take him.
