Chief celebrates his 46th birthday today. I know that probably sounds really, really old to you, but from my perspective, he's just getting started. He told me this morning he's half way to 92 so I guess that's the goal. By the time you're old enough to read these letters, you'll already understand that your grandfather is an extraordinary man. There is not a doubt in my mind that he will be your favorite... because he is mine. Children (especially babies) love him. There is something magnetic about him that draws their attention. When we were first married, he was afraid of this gift, but when our own babies came, he quickly caught on and he is now a baby pro.
Chief is the hardest working man I know. He's worked this hard his entire life and doesn't know anything different. It's just part of his character. The best part about it is that he plays as hard as he works. I think it's safe to say that he works hard at play too!
There isn't anything he wouldn't do for his family and friends. Nothing. No matter the cost. There is nothing more important to him than our happiness... even at the expense of his own. Chief is constantly attending to us all in some manner, always looking for ways to help, to serve and do what he can for everyone he loves so much.
He is selfless to a fault.
You are one blessed grandchild. And if Chief has his way, you'll be spoiled too. But it won't matter. You'll have the love of a wonderful man as your grandfather. A man who loves and adores his family and will shower you with love and devotion as well.
Who could ask for anything more?
