I witnessed a very scary situation today. I was out at a location where an elderly man became unresponsive. He was sweating profusely and obviously having some kind of health episode. A family member kept trying to wake him. She was familiar with him, constantly talking to him, assessing his condition. She was calm and cool... but when she didn't see a change, she told the people around her to call 911. Smart girl. She realized the situation was beyond her abilities and she asked for help before it was too late. Within minutes a whole team of emergency response personnel showed up and the man was cared for by the professionals.
Know when to say when. Someday, you're going to get in over your head. Ask for help before you make a situation worse. Know your limitations. Seek and accept the support you need. Don't be too proud to utilize assistance when necessary.
This coping technique requires a sharp sense of judgment and the best way to learn that skill is trial and error. You'll have to develop a keen sense of self-awareness and understanding of your strengths and weaknesses. Of course, there are those that will help you with that too. Hang in there kid. We've got your back.
