God gave you a brain. Use it. Learn critical thinking skills and use them when you have decisions to make. The most reliable source for information is your brain, not your emotions. Don't rely on others to tell you what to think, feel and how to act. Advice and guidance is fine, but it cannot replace solid decision-making. Critical thinking is figuring out if something is always true, sometimes true, partly true, or false. It was the method used by Socrates and is can be found in Buddhist literature. The process has been around for a really, really long time and yet I think it is way under utilized. It takes intelligence, patience as well as an open-mind. It's not easy, but it is important.
Some of my favorite conversations with my children have been over deep, philosophical issues. We don't always agree but we always walk away having learned something we hadn't previously considered. I love those moments. They are priceless and I will treasure them always. I can't wait to have the same experience with you.
