A Thousand Words in 2014

I have acquired a massive collection of photographs and one of my goals for the coming year is to get them all scanned, categorized and shared.  This is a big project and it’s going to take quite a bit of time, but it’s important and I’m going to start now.  I’ve decided to incorporate my 2014 blog theme with this project as well. I have always loved photographs.  There is just something magical about freezing a moment in time with a visual image that can last forever.  But, like any other form of art, the interpretation is subjective. What I feel when I see a photograph is different from those around me.  The experience is unique for each individual, even if it was a shared original experience.

I’ve also learned (from experience) that these stories pass away along with the people who lived them.    After a while, the people, places and events depicted lose their meaning and significance if there are no words to tell the story.  A picture is worth a thousand words, but they must be written to be remembered accurately.  They must be documented.

For my 2014 blog project, I’m going to share a few of these memories and emotions with you. I’m going to tell the story (my story) behind some of my favorite photographs.   I want to document my interpretation of the events depicted to leave a history for those who will come after me.  I hope you’ll follow along and comment as often as you’d like.  If you have a memory of the photo I post, please share it with me and everyone else who cares to read the words.

"Sometimes we will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory." -- Dr. Seuss I pray for God’s blessings of peace and love to you all in 2014.  This is going to be fun.
