This is my dad. He's only 17 years old in this photograph which was taken when he was in the Army. I think he is very handsome, but there is also a kindness in his eyes and smile that reveal his true character. Even as a very young man he had a pleasing countenance and a warm personality. One of the best things about this particular photograph is the notation on the back. In my grandmother's handwriting it says, "Charles Houston Faulkner Jr. - US Army - June 1947 - A gift to his daughter Kelli."
Dad served in the Army during the Korean War. I don't have a single memory of Dad talking about his time in the military. Maybe my brothers do... I hope so. Maybe it just wasn't something dads discussed with their daughters. I have a feeling I just didn't care and that makes me very sad. I wish I could go back in time and sit with him a while and ask him the questions that I have now.
