1,000 Words: Citizens of the Year

If you know me or follow this blog with any regularity, you know how I feel about Leroy's sister Anne and her family.  I could probably dedicate an entire year writing about the character of the Almeida family.  We are all very close and we spend a lot of time together so it's only natural that maintain this intimate relationship.  But I'm not the only one who appreciates this family.  Everyone who knows them, associates with them or works with them know that there's something special about John and Anne. The entire city of Hilmar knows too.

John and Anne were named Hilmar's "Citizens of the Year" for their work and dedication to the people of this small, close-knit community.  They have both worked tirelessly on behalf of many community groups and organizations including the schools and churches.  They're the first to offer their time and resources whenever a need arises.

We (family) filled the hall when the award was announced and presented.  We all wanted to celebrate this well deserved honor and congratulate the recipients.  This has become one of my favorite Rocha family photos and reminds me of the gratitude I have for John and Anne.
